Providing a gateway to self-awareness, mindfulness, and even a deeper connection with the universe, prana- better known as breath or life force, is the Centre of almost every activity in the misty Himalayan mountains of Rishikesh. Located on the banks of the river Ganga, the clean environment amplifies conscious breathing and practices of yoga and meditation.

The crisp, oxygen-rich air is bound to rejuvenate anyone visiting this serene place. Rishikesh’s location is right at the foothills of the Himalayas and on the banks of the river Ganga is surrounded by thick and dense forests and wildlife.

In fact, in Hindu philosophy, breath is linked to prana vayu, the vital energy of everyday life. Rishikesh is the perfect place for wellness retreats and yogic activities.  Guided breathing sessions help release stress, achieve inner balance and detoxify one’s system.

Breath is symbolised by the metaphor for life that impermanence is the only permanence and how we all need to embrace change to move forward in life. This also helps us stay connected to our inner selves. Breathing in Rishikesh is more than just inhaling oxygen; it is absorbing the essence of spirituality, vitality and serenity.

Whether it is through yogic activities, sitting by the Ganga, or meditation our breath is a sacred act which transforms the merely ordinary into the divine.

Moreover, in this area, there are plenty of adventure activities where the role of breath is so important. It is with a steady and mindful breath that people can remain focused and grounded in the present.

Breathwork is so integrated into Ayurvedic practices that it enhances the body’s natural healing processes. Breath is so in sync and rhythm with the sounds of nature, such as the chirps of birds, the flow of the Ganga, and rustling leaves, it all creates a harmonious and wonderful experience.

Disciplined control of breathwork is the first step towards mastering the mind and even enlightenment. This also makes Rishikesh the perfect starting point for many pilgrimages to Kedarnath, Badrinath and Hemkund Sahid.
