Are You Keeping Up with New York’s Breakneck Pace?

New York – a city of dream, a city of romance and a city to make money.
It is a city many people across the world dream of living in or working in; but
you know the stark reality is not THAT beautiful!  It’s a place,
which has got all the giant financial companies and is home to two of the
largest stock exchanges – NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange; it is also
the most photographed city in the world!
It is iconic for its centers such as Times Square, the Statue of
Liberty, Staten Island, and Broadway Theatre District; anchored by Wall Street
right into the middle of Financial District of Lower Manhattan. You have people
from all countries living in New York, so you do not even feel like an
immigrant.
Manhattan even has a mini Chinatown that has the highest number of
Chinese people in the Western hemisphere!!!! Wow! As they say in Chinese, Wa!
It is a major center of the world’s entertainment industry and there are
endless number of parks and positive reasons why a person should be so happy
here.
However, what I have noticed is the opposite – everybody is a
refugee of some sort and is seeking something. Everyone is running with no one
really keeping the connection solid and warm. Too much time is being spent
running to catch the next subway train to work, at work and then the entire
concept of ‘family’ is literally at a minimum.
People are warm and friendly but they like to be alone at the end of the
day – maybe its just the individualistic culture but every single person
creates their sense of ‘self’ based on their relationships that they have in
their social life. Constantly seeking approval yet wanting that freedom. This
way and that way – it’s a tough war. Every relationship straddles affinity,
reality and communication.
Can a city ever slow down to ever change the fast-paced nature of the
people or will it always be this way?
