Dig – they must! At dawn’s first yawn

A time when silence is holy – their drills are on!

Wow – a patch of road has just been laid –

But oh no! it’s torn down again by BMC’s brigade!

Tar gets laid down in midnight haste

-melted again – oh what a waste!

Bulldozers, mechanised machines then two more

Mumbai dances on a cratered floor!

Every step is a gamble on these city’s streets

Can we even walk without falling 5 feet deep?

What is BMC getting done?

Is this for development or is it for fun?

These men in vests and neon gear

Stretch the work from month to year!

Is this clock only for a civic rhyme?

Which never runs on time!

From Bandra to Andheri and even beyond

The roads are valleys where dreams only respond

Rickshaws and taxis weave through this mist

City lights keep glowing like a lover’s tryst

Pipes they gargle and cables only snake

Promises are always made but they always break!

Barricades are blooming almost everywhere

Getting out on the choked roads is becoming a scare!

Through this chaos, the city just “goes on”

Spinning to chaos, yet never withdrawn!

The BMC’s word is messy and wild

Hugging all the people as if a stubborn child

Still, we will breathe and try to cope

Each day is a new one for us to hope
