Fat Loss, Inch Loss & Weight Loss…

Losing weight generally means slimming down, but did you know that slimming down DOESN’T necessarily mean losing weight? Sounds ironic, doesn’t it, but its actually POSSIBLE to get thinner, without having lost weight. So how does this happen?

Simple, the body loses ‘FAT’ and gains more muscle mass. So if you begin to lose inches, although your weight is the same; you are on the RIGHT path! However, losing weight can be a very misleading; especially when NOW you know; you can lose BODY FAT, WEIGHT and INCHES!

Our body weight mainly consists of the weight of fat, bones, muscles, tissues, organs, water and blood. When we want to lose weight, the main focus is to reduce the body fat, from the total body composition.

Have you ever thought about what a fat tissue is like? Known as the adipose tissue (fatty tissue), this tissue is not a very dense one and thus occupies a lot of space in the body. So, if and when we lose fat, the space gets freed and we can then notice INCH LOSS.

If we were to think about this logically, there should be weight loss; but our bodies are generally never very comfortable with weight changes. It always tries to balance the LOSS of fat with the gain of muscle mass, i.e. it always tries to utilise the energy that is obtained from burning fat for some repair of muscles.

If you engage in strength-training workouts on a regular basis, your muscles will GROW; and this means that you may even GAIN WEIGHT! Muscle tissues are known to be heavier than fatty tissues! This may even result in losing inches, but not losing the weight! However, your body will look trim and toned.

So, the next time you step on the scale; don’t be fooled. The number that will be shown represents everything: fats, muscles, bones, organs, water and food. There is no way the scale can tell the difference between muscle & fat.

There may be times that you may want to question everything that your doing if the scale shows you a number that your not happy with. By focusing SOLELY on weight loss, you overshadow a lot of positive results that you are getting; such as high endurance, higher energy levels and fat loss.

Remember, its always important to look at the HOLISTIC picture!
